Congratulations Professor Shorty, the new CFFC Flyweight Champion
Cage Fury Fight Championships promised to bring together two of the best flyweights outside of the UFC when Sean “Shorty Rock” Santella (Tapology’s #1-ranked Flyweight in the Northeast) took on Matt “SMG” Lozano (#4 Flyweight in the Northeast) for the CFFC Interim Flyweight Title. While “SMG” proved a game opponent, once again Shorty cemented his place as the non-UFC fighter most deserving of a shot at the big show as he controlled the fight before locking up a title-winning rear naked choke at 1:54 of the third round.
The opening frame was closely-contested, with the majority of the round taking place standing before Shorty took the fight to his domain with a takedown late in the round. Although there was little time for offense following the takedown, it proved to be a sign of things to come as Shorty continued to press the grappling in the remaining rounds, securing a takedown and working his way to his opponent’s back both times. While “SMG” was able to withstand the assault of punches and elbows Shorty threw at him in the second round, when you find yourself with a First Degree Black Belt of Shorty’s caliber on your back your story rarely has a happy ending. With his opponent’s back for the second consecutive round, Shorty was able to get an arm under Lozano’s chin in the third round to get the rear naked choke finish — his second in his last three bouts.

Everyone at Miller Brothers MMA & Fitness is proud of Professor Shorty for once again showing his talents as a martial artist and being a stellar example of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in MMA. We would also like to send our congratulations to friend of the gym Mickey Gall, who fought at UFC on Fox 22 and locked up a rear naked less than one minute prior to Professor Shorty.
